Sunday 7th was the first round of the Junior Boulder Cup at the Climbing Unit, Derby. The day began by having our 8 qualifiers and I successfully did all 8 in 9 attempts with plenty of time to spare. After a while the results were put up and I was in the final in joint 3rd place.
After a quick hat swap and a long time in isolation the viewing for the final climbs began. I was first up on the blocs and I was feeling relaxed and happy. Bloc 1 was a mantle up on to a tear drop shaped volume and I flashed it straight away, next was Bloc 2 on the 45° section of the comp wall and after sticking the dyno I rolled over and topped out with my second flash. Finally the third and final climb was on the horizontal cave wall with some big reaches to slopers, it felt really demanding on the body, especially the left arm! On my third go I managed to hold the bonus and that was as far as I could get. That was me done and I just now had to sit tight and watched and waited for the final results.
After 30 minutes the wait was over and I was really happy to have finished in 1st place. My first win in a national competition! A great start to the Cup and a positive start to the season. Going to take it easy now, rest, eat well and sleep lots! 🙂
