Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th was the GB Team training weekend at The Works, Sheffield. The weekend was also used as a selection process for the first European competition of the season. On Saturday we started with a 1 hour warm up in preparation for the 8 European styled blocs we had to complete in the qualifying scramble format. I eventually completed all of my climbs with a few seconds to spare of the 90 minute time limit. It’s cool to get practice on the Euro style climbs as they are set so different to we’re used to; lots of volumes, slabs, and technical movements. Next was a well needed lunch break followed by nutrition profiling with Lu. This was to help us to make better, healthier choices of food. After our lunch had settled, we gathered outside for a team run to Millhouses Park! Once there we had a play around with the Multi-Vit movements and these were incorporated in a game of bull dog going on all fours from one side to the other. (Lots of muddy, grass stained knees!) Back at the Works Shauna Coxsey came and gave a talk on her highs and lows and experiences of being a professional boulderer. It gave me some really interesting things to think about.
After a very good nights’ sleep it was another early start for Day 2. After getting some valuable feedback about the whole teams’ warm up from the day before, we separated into 3 groups. Really chuffed that I passed my hurdle step FMS test! I’ve been working on improving my core strength so good stuff! After this I went with Tom and Mike to learn which types of holds, moves and techniques to use when warming up on a wall. Next we all tried 2 new workouts called Boulder Shoulder and Master Blaster workout with Tim. They made us sweat! A session with Lu and Tim was next about Boulder fitness, showing us how we can improve our stamina on the wall and various ways to train it. Finally we finished with Tom on the comp wall trying out other Euro blocs and odd fun movements.
As usual it was an ace weekend, tough but fun, a massive thank you to Tom, Lu, Tim and Mike for their hard work and time.
On Monday morning we were e-mailed the Team selection for Langenfeld, Austria and I’m so psyched to be going. 🙂
