First ever competition in Group A! Sunday 22nd I was up at The Works, Sheffield to compete in an Open Youth comp. I had 8 qualifiers to try. I could see a clear difference in blocs from Groups B to A because they were more technical and crimpier with bigger moves but I was psyched and up for it. I topped 5 in 9 and got 7 bonuses in 11 which meant I qualified for the final in 1st place. For one bloc in qualifying I went a different way from the way it was set, a really shouldery move but it worked for me!

I went in to iso and was in there for a total of just over 3 hours! Our first bloc in the final was a slab, it looked well hard. After hearing that no one had had any luck on it I decided I’d try a completely different way, I was close to the bonus but still got nowhere. After I went back in to iso, we were told that the route setters missed a vital hold off our climb- no wonder no one even got to the bonus. Anyway, after 1 bloc we were still in our qualifying positions. Second bloc I flashed to the bonus, it was really hard after that! Finally on the third climb I flashed to the bonus again. Fortunately 2 bonuses in 2 go’s was enough for 1st place. I didn’t expect it to win with no tops but great challenging climbs.

As always it was a good day to catch up with everyone and really enjoyed myself.
